enneagram nine: develop a new habit or daily routine

Source: Take Care of Your Type

Peacemakers have a hard time with creating new and lasting habits. Whether they are striving to eat healthier, exercise more, or add new rhythms to their life, committing to a regular practice when they struggle to maintain high energy levels in general is difficult for them. With that, they are also incredibly stubborn and don’t like to feel that something or someone is telling them how to live their life. In reality, though, Peacemakers are quick to give up on themselves in these situations, not because they don’t believe they can succeed, but because the new situations are uncomfortable for them. They have learned to thrive in familiarity, and changes that bring up negative self-talk they’re not familiar with will cause them to retreat to an old habit or routine that may feel more comfortable but is not necessarily benefiting their mental well-being. That’s why I’m calling on all Peacemakers to commit not just to a cleanse or diet or thirty-day challenge but to a lifestyle shift. Make that positive change you’ve been putting off. Make it, and don’t turn back. Peacemakers underestimate their ability to do things like this, but all it takes is some momentum to get a Type 9 going. Once they’re sold on something, they’re sold for life. So leave the habits you know aren’t improving your life behind you, and instead finally commit to the new habits you believe will keep you sane, safe, and healthy. Become sold on your self-care—because you deserve it.
