enneagram nine: do a brain dump

Source: Take Care of Your Type

Although they have a calm and collected exterior, Peacemakers usually have a lot on their mind at any given time. They’re reminiscing, worrying, stressing, dreaming… they have thoughts and feelings they don’t know how to express fully because they’re also somewhat detached from their reality. One of the best things Type 9s can do for their mental health is what I sometimes refer to as “brain dump.” To do a brain dump, grab a piece of paper (or a notebook or journal), sit, and write out everything that is inside your brain onto the pages. Don’t worry about your words looking or sounding perfect. Don’t worry about them being profound or “important” enough. Just connect to your inner dialogue, and write it all down. Brain dumps will not only help you create space to process but also space to create. After you’re done, you can read all that you’ve been thinking about, and doing so may make those emotions that were once consuming you or tasks you were once worrying about feel less daunting. When you see these things written down, they become a little bit smaller. A little bit more manageable. This is important for Peacemakers to do, as they are easily overwhelmed by their responsibilities and feelings. Remember that you’re still human. You’re still creative. You’re still capable. Put it all on the page first, and you’ll feel more prepared and assured to go through all of it.
